Why it is called Samhain by Celts? – Samhain is a Hindi / Sanskrit word which means time. In India if you ask any one „Samhain“, he will tell you the time. And time is related to death. And for this very reason the Celtic month as per the Celtic calendar is called Ant-Samhain (The Moon of the Ancestors). If we rewrite this it will be Ant-Samhain. Ant in Hindi / Sanskrit means Last and Samhain means time and therefore it is the last time that is death.

An Dublachd (The Moon of the Dark Sun)
An Dublachd is a Sanskrit word. We can rewrite this as And Ubla Chd. Let us analyze this step by step. There are three words And, Ubla and Chd.
Chd – Chd means Moon in Sanskrit / Hindi and an Indian in English will write it as Chand, although both sound similar.
And Ubla – Means half grown / matured. Indian will pronounce And as Ardh and Ubla as Ubhra. Here Ard means half and Ubhra means grown. Therefore the meaning of An Dublachd (Ard-Ubhra Chand) is Half grown Moon or Half matured Moon.
Why it is called An Dublachd? –Earth is closest to the Sun during the month of December / January called Perihelion. After the New Moon in January the Earth starts going away from the Sun. During the month of December, Earth is closer to the Sun and at the same time, Moon is closer as well and comes out half (last quarter moon) as if it is half grown / matured but it comes out very clear and bright. This phenomenon was observed on 19th of December of 2008. Therefore the month of December is called An Dublachd (Ard-Ubhra Chand), Half grown / matured Moon.
The festival of this month both for Hindus and Druids falls on 15th of Dec 2008.
What is the name and significance for Hindus?
Dhanu Sankranti : is the name of the Hindu festival and it is celebrated all over India. Dhanu Sankranti is an important day in traditional Hindu calendar and on the day sun enters the Dhanur Rashi (Sagitarius). In many regions in India, on Dhanu Sankranti day Surya (Sun God) is worshipped. Prayers are offered to Surya and people also take dip in holy rivers. Dhanu Sankranti marks the beginning of the transition through the Dhanur Rashi (Sagitarius) and this particular period ends on the Makar Sankranti day.
